The perfect raclette
After a long day
outdoors, a hearty meal of raclette really hits the spot! This
traditional Swiss dish traditionally involves melting a half
wheel of cheese over bread, but times change. We can't even
count how many creative ways there are to enjoy a nice cheesy
raclette! We've come up with the ultimate raclette guide to
please both the traditionalists and the innovators.
Cheese is the star of the show!
You can't have raclette without cheese! !
Pay a visit to the cheese counter at your local Marché Adonis and
stock up on a wide variety of
cheese Grilling cheeses, like halloumi or nabulsi, are perfect for
raclette, as you can cook them directly on the grill plate. You may
also want to try out some other cheeses for melting onto meat,
veggies and slices of bread. Mozzarella, Brie, aged cheddar,
Gruyere, Gouda, you name it-there's no cheese that isn't great with
raclette! We also offer an assortment of pre sliced raclette cheese
to make your life a little easier.
Protein pairings
Grisons meat is traditionally served with Swiss raclette, but
there are lots of different options for grilling. Why limit
yourself to just one protein? Here are just a few ideas:
-
- Sliced marinated meat: beef, lamb, chicken, pork, game, etc.
Head to your local Marché Adonis and check out our ready to cook
marinated meats,
such as shish taouk chicken and souvlaki pork.
-
- Firm fish
such as salmon, trout, tilapia and tuna.
- - Seafood: scallops, shrimp, etc.
- - Charcuterie: ham, sausage, salami, prosciutto, etc.
- - Marinated firm tofu.
- - Slices of pre cooked sausage, such as our makanek
sausages.
- - Eggs, cooked right on the grill plate or in the raclette
trays.
Get your fill of vegetables!
Grilled veggies
are oh so good! Mix and match your favourites for a variety of
colours, textures and flavours. Bell peppers, onions, asparagus,
cherry tomatoes, zucchini and mushrooms all taste delicious on a
grill flavoured by meat and cheese. Take the time to pre cook
firmer vegetables, such as carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and
creamer potatoes (a raclette must) by blanching them for a few
minutes before serving.
Supporting roles
Bread is a must with raclette! Dish up some warm baguette, seasoned
croutons, mini pitas, anything you've got. Variety is key! It's
also a great opportunity to prepare some of your favourite fondue
sauces to pair with the grilled meat. Try changing things up a bit
with Adonis sauces and dips: hummus, baba ghanouj, muhammara,
there's no shortage of options! Finally, raclette can be a bit
heavy, so you don't need to come up with any sides, but you can
serve the meal with a light salad to add a bit of freshness and
balance.
Quaff it down with...
There are a number of excellent drink pairings for raclette.
The best choice to cut the richness of the cheese is a Savoie
white, a German Riesling or a Swiss Fendant. If you prefer a red,
choose a lighter wine like an Alsace Pinot Noir or a Beaujolais
gamay. If you prefer beer, a lager or light wheat beer with fresh
and fruity notes will do the trick.
